Designed by children’s author Maurice Sendak (Where the Wild Things Are), this version of Tchaikovsky’s ballet is based on the Pacific Northwest Ballet’s production. Toys and gifts come to life at Christmas time when young Clara sets out to recover her beloved nutcracker. Swept away to a magical castle, Clara must defeat the Mouse King and rebuff the advances of the pasha so she and her prince can have their happily ever after. Directed by cinematographer Carroll Ballard (The Black Stallion), this lush rendition captures all the romance and adventure of the original production.
