(E.A. Dupont, UK 1929, 92 min., 35mm)
Disappointed with the roles she was being offered in Hollywood, Anna May Wong moved to Europe to make films in 1928. This British production offered her the opportunity of a lead role. Set in a swinging nightclub, Wong plays Shosho, a dishwasher who is fired for distracting the kitchen staff with her dancing. But when the club’s star leaves, Shosho is hired back to perform and becomes an overnight sensation.
