The Prince of Tides (DCP)

Saturday, February 21, 2026, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Barbra Streisand, US 1991, 132 min., DCP)

Eight years after her triumph with Yentl, Barbra Streisand returns to the director’s chair for this adaptation of Pat Conroy’s bestselling novel about a troubled man and his therapist. Tom Wingo (Nick Nolte) is summoned to New York City to meet with Susan Lowenstein (Streisand), his sister Susannah’s therapist. Lowenstein wants Tom’s help to unearth the family’s past to discover what has led to Susannah’s repeated suicide attempts and hospitalization. Though initially resistant, Tom begins to peel away layers of past trauma that lead to a revelation of suppressed memories that affect the entire family. Nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Streisand is a knockout both in front of and behind the camera.
