(Alfred Hitchcock, US 1960, 109 min., DCP)
Disenchanted with her life, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) picks up and disappears, only to find herself stuck in a dead end at the Bates Motel and checks into the Bates Motel for a destiny-changing shower; a scene that also forever altered the expectations of moviegoers. Tracing her footsteps, her sister Lila and detective Milton Arbogast are engulfed by a mystery more insidious than they ever expected. Hitchcock’s most unrelentingly dark work is greatly enhanced by Bernard Herrmann’s chilling score and Anthony Perkins’s unpredictable performance as Norman Bates. Although it’s one of the most imitated horror movies, nothing equals the power of seeing Psycho in a cinema.
