The Shining (35mm)

Friday, January 2, 2026, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Stanley Kubrick, US 1980, 146 min., 35mm)

Seeking inspiration and relaxation, troubled writer Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) accepts a job as wintertime caretaker for a hotel in Colorado. Soon, a case of cabin fever spells trouble for Jack’s wife (Shelley Duvall) and psychic young son (Danny Lloyd). The visuals in Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel have always shocked audiences, and will never look better than in the gorgeous new 35mm print that the George Eastman Museum acquired recently. The film reached #88 on Sight and Sound magazine’s 2022 list of the one hundred “Greatest Films of All Time” poll.
