The Dryden Theatre is celebrating Silent Movie Day one day early with this program of comedic gems exclusively from our collection at the George Eastman Museum. Featuring more modern films that build on the legacy of silent films as well as unique preservations headed by our own staff, this is not only a great introduction to silent films if you haven’t seen them on the big screen before, but also a rare treat to see these films projected. La Flamme wonders about the fate of those characters on-screen when decomposition sets in, while Der Filmrestaurator offers a fun primer on how to get rid of those nasty scratches. The vintage silent films offer Billy Bevan as an unwanted suitor, Charley Bowers as an inept Scotland Yard detective investigating a haunted house, an early color animated bout between Noah and one of his kangaroos, and the best twenty minutes you’ll ever spend in a theater, with Max Davidson as a father trying to keep his daughter’s engagement intact despite problems with his neighbor and future in-law.
