Treasury men Dennis O’Brien and Tony Genaro (Dennis O’Keefe and Alfred Ryder) go undercover in the mean streets of Detroit to track down the head of a counterfeiting ring. There they meet a man known only as “The Schemer” (Wallace Ford), who may be the key to uncovering the whole operation. Diving deeper into their deception, the two agents must consider how far they are willing to go to accomplish their mission and who they will be when they emerge from their cover. The combination of procedural and low-key lighting elicits comparisons to He Walked by Night and The Street with No Name that would be released the following year.
