(Henry King, US 1921, 99 min., 35mm)
David Kinemon (Richard Barthelmess) grows up as the younger son on a tenant farm near the border between Virginia and West Virginia. After meeting Esther (Gladys Hulette) on a neighboring farm, he is smitten and longs to do something to make her proud and woo her, but his brother doesn’t allow him to drive the “hack” that carries government mail and passengers around the area. Tensions heighten when Esther's cousins escape from jail and take up residence on her farm, and violence erupts when jealousies and family rivalry come to a head.
