The fourth pairing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers is still the best, partly because they’ve brought Irving Berlin’s music along for the fun. Astaire plays Jerry Travers, an American dancer in London for his latest show. Staying with his theatrical patron, Jerry wakes up Dale Tremont (Rogers) in the hotel room below with his incessant tap dancing. After multiple mistaken identities, Jerry follows Dale to Italy to win her heart, but he’s got to compete with her Italian dressmaker. Astaire’s choreography highlights Berlin classics “Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails” and “Cheek to Cheek.”
