Director Jonathan Glazer’s follow-up to Sexy Beast and Birth is this hypnotic, off-beat, science fiction thriller. Scarlett Johansson plays a mysterious figure trolling the streets of Glasgow, seducing men and bringing them back to an abandoned house for her own purposes. This masterpiece of existential science fiction journeys to the heart of what it means to be human, extraterrestrial—or something in between. Glazer takes his camera on the road with the character, filming the men of Scotland as they interact with Johansson, sometimes unaware they are being filmed, leading to genuine reactions.
