(Fritz Lang, US 1956, 100 min., 35mm)
A corporate power grab centers on a string of sensational murders in this black-and-white drama shot by Ernest Laszlo. When media mogul Amos Kyne (Robert Warwick) dies and leaves his empire to his disinterested son, Walter (Vincent Price), the heir decides to appoint an executive director from one of three key staff members: New York Sentinel editor Jon Day Griffith (Thomas Mitchell); Mark Loving (George Sanders), who runs the Kyne wire service; or Harry Kritzer (James Craig), head of the nascent television arm of the company. The focus: the murders of two beautiful women in their own apartments that may be connected. Whoever can discover the murderer gets the position. The real power, however, may lie with Pulitzer Prize-winning author and television commentator Ed Mobley (Dana Andrews), the best reporter in the organization. Screen sirens Ida Lupino and Rhonda Fleming also star.
