Wings (35mm)

Tuesday, September 2, 2025, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(William A. Wellman, US 1927, 144 min., 35mm)

The winner of the first Academy Award for Best Picture was also the last silent film to receive that honor. Clara Bow, Charles “Buddy” Rogers and Richard Arlen make up the love triangle at the center of this WWI adventure set against the backdrop of the Army Air Corps. The stunning aerial photography and combat flying sequences are surely the personal touch of real-life adventurer Wellman, himself a member of the Escadrille Flying Corps. This film would not exist in the state it is today without the conservation efforts of the George Eastman Museum.
