Note: This program is rescheduled from Friday, October 24. Join core project team members James Layton, Crystal Kui and Margaux Chalançon, along with special guest author Monika Kin Gagnon, for the public launch of Film Atlas, a new interactive website developed by the George Eastman Museum and the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF). This free encyclopedic resource documents the history of film as a physical medium, from gauges and bases to color, 3-D, and sound, through a growing collection of high-resolution visuals and newly commissioned essays. With over 150 contributors from 23 countries, the site aims to publish more than 650 entries over the next five years, documenting both well-known and obscure formats with the support of over 50 archives and museums around the world. The presentation will introduce the project’s scope, demonstrate key features of the site, and share behind the scenes insight into the collaborative research and writing process. A Q&A session will follow the talk.
Film Atlas is a collaboration between FIAF and the George Eastman Museum, and supported by generous funding from the Louis B. Mayer Foundation, the George Eastman Museum Publishing Trust Endowment, and FIAF’s Eileen Bowser Memorial Fund.
Free to all.
