Eastman School of Music pianist and violinist Cindy Shang will perform an hour-long concert in the Living Room.

About the Musician
Cindy Shang is a music educator, violinist, and conductor who is passionate about nurturing creativity and musical interests in students. Cindy currently serves as teaching artist for the orchestra program at ROCmusic Collaborative under the Hochstein School of Music. She received the Kanable scholarship and assistantships from the Eastman School of Music to pursue a master's degree in music teaching and learning and violin performance under the tutelage of Professor Yoojin Jang. As a teaching assistant, she instructs the String Method Class and assists Teaching Group Strings and Secondary Instrumental Rehearsal Technique. Outside of teaching, she works as a solo violinist and pianist and serves as the founder and violinist of the Rising Sun Trio.
Cindy completed her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University with dual degrees in music education and radio, television, and film. She was a student of the Grammy-nominated violinist Desirée Ruhstrat. Cindy has directed and assisted more than 10 theater and film productions and worked on sound design and film scoring for several shows. Cindy’s research focuses on developing curricula that foster creativity and teach improvisation and composition through deep listening, storytelling, free play, and project-based activities. Cindy has served as the president of American String Teachers Association Student Chapter and professional development coordinator of the National Association for Music Education Student Chapter. She was a music instructor at the Academy of Music and Arts for Special Education (AMASE), where she taught piano, general music, and group singing class.
