Take a private tour of the History of Photography Gallery with curator Lisa Hostetler and learn how the moon has been a source of artistic inspiration, scientific inquiry, and popular fascination.
Then, artist Sean McFarland, whose work is featured in the current History of Photography Gallery rotation, will teach us how to create lunar-inspired photographs using the Lumen printing process, which was developed in the 19th century as a way to document the natural world.
Coffee and light snacks will be provided.
Limited to 12 participants.
Over a professional life spanning seven decades, Edward Steichen (1879–1973) established himself as one of the most important figures in the history of photography. What is less known is that for much of that time, Steichen devoted himself to the nurturing of plants and gardens, an activity that sustained him and through which he developed ardently held beliefs regarding the relationship of art, nature, and creativity.
