Frank Sinatra and Doris Day team up in this romantic drama with songs by Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Jimmy Van Heusen, Harold Arlen, and Johnny Mercer. Widowed music professor Gregory Tuttle (Robert Keith) has passed his love of music on to his three daughters. Along with his sister, Jessie (Ethel Barrymore), they raise the three young women who begin to enter the world of romance. The youngest, Laurie (Day), expresses to her sisters that the problem with marriage is that there aren’t enough laughs. When she meets down-and-out composer Barney (Sinatra); however, she sees his immense talent and vows to improve his attitude. Sinatra sings “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “One for My Baby,” and duets with Day on the title song.
