As part of Member Appreciation Week, members are invited to join Eastman Legacy Curator Kathy Connor for a look back on the restoration work on the original Aeolian pipe organ in George Eastman's mansion. After the presentation in the Dryden Theatre, members will be treated to some live organ music performed by Joe Blackburn, resident organist at the museum, and will get a chance to view (in small groups) the organ chambers on both the second and third floors of the historic mansion. Volunteers will be on hand to show off the chambers and answer all of your questions about the ongoing work of maintaining a residential pipe organ of this magnitude.
Over a professional life spanning seven decades, Edward Steichen (1879–1973) established himself as one of the most important figures in the history of photography. What is less known is that for much of that time, Steichen devoted himself to the nurturing of plants and gardens, an activity that sustained him and through which he developed ardently held beliefs regarding the relationship of art, nature, and creativity.
