Workshop for 8 participants
This workshop is offered only every other year, so we suggest you register early to secure a spot. This silver chloride printing-out paper dates to the 1860s but did not become popular until the 1890s. It is the most archival silver-based printing technique and has the same fine resolution and tonality as a highly glazed albumen print. It is one of the easiest processes we have ever taught; beginners often produce perfect coatings on their first try. The class begins with a lecture on the chemistry of the process, followed by hands-on coating and printing sessions. Vintage negatives are supplied, but participants are welcome to bring their own negatives to try. A visit to the Department of Photography to see vintage examples completes the experience. Participants will receive a print folio and a manual with complete formulas, directions, and sources of supplies.
Audience: Limited to eight, this three-day workshop is for photographers, artists, teachers, students, and others looking for an introduction to this archival printing process. No experience necessary.
Cancellation Policy: Withdrawal from the workshop 30 days before the session start date will receive a refund minus a $100 processing fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations made less than 30 days before a workshop start date. If the workshop is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class will be fully refunded. The George Eastman Museum is not responsible for airline ticket cancellation costs or fees.
