A Farewell to Arms

Monday, September 11, 2017, 1:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Frank Borzage, US 1932, 95 min., 35mm)

WWI | Senior Matinee. Ernest Hemingway’s great novel was first translated to the screen in this powerfully memorable melodrama from Hollywood’s Pre-Code era. Performers Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes bring to life the story of a tragic love affair between a soldier and a nurse during World War I. Recently preserved by the George Eastman Museum in collaboration with the UCLA Film and Television Archive, the film will be presented in a new 35mm print that showcases the vivid cinematography by the great Charles Lang, who won an Oscar for his achievement. Free for 55 and older.
