Trees of Syntax, Leaves of Axis

(Daïchi Saïto, Canada 2009, 10 min., 35mm)

Entirely hand-processed by the filmmaker, Trees of Syntax, Leaves of Axis, with the contrapuntal violin by Malcolm Goldstein, is a poem of vision and sound that seeks certain perceptual insight and revelation through a syntactical structure based on patterns, variations, and repetition.

Void

(Josh Romphf, Canada/US 2015, 8 min., DCP)

Meshes and wireframes erupt spontaneously in space, while the camera meanders randomly toward an uncertain vanishing point. A computer program written for virtual reality and adapted for a cinematic environment.

Engram of Returning

(Daïchi Saïto, Canada 2015, 18 min., 35mm)

An epic 35mm CinemaScope metaphysical travelogue that reveals a supernal world which pulses and flickers with formal patterns and deep hues.

Twilight Zone—World Premiere!

(Josh Romphf, Canada/US 2016, 10 min., DCP)

Two technicians discover the concept of recursion while calibrating a video deck, setting off a series of increasingly abstract spatial and temporal loops.

Both filmmakers will be present for a discussion following the screening.
