(George Cukor, US 1938, 95 min., 35mm)

Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn teamed for the second (but not last!) time to bring true star power to this remake of the 1930 romantic comedy by the same name. Updated to reflect the times of the Great Depression, Cary Grant plays Johnny Case, a self-made financier who desires to take a holiday from work and travel abroad to enjoy life, much to the dismay of his wealthy fiancée and her father. The film mixes in some acrobatics and the fiancée’s freethinking sister (Hepburn), who is unhappy with being an heiress, to deliver a comedic crowd-pleaser with classist undertones.
