Presented free to seniors (62+) on Monday afternoons through October. Beginning this March, our senior matinee screenings are fully incorporated into our regular film calendar. Cinematic classics from the George Eastman House collection will be presented in 35mm, the way they were originally screened and were meant to be seen. This series is made possible in part by the Daisy Marquis Jones Foundation and the Monroe County Office for the Aging. Concert violinist Holger Brandt is a man dedicated to two things: his music and his family. That is until he hears the beautiful, talented pianist Anita Hoffman, his daughter’s music teacher. When he asks Anita to accompany him on tour, the two fall passionately in love, abandoning his family and the lives they once led. Ingrid Bergman’s debut Hollywood film, this wonderfully written, melodramatic rollercoaster finds her a distinguished and surprisingly perfect fit for the Hollywood romance.
This exhibition features three recently restored paper prints originally produced by Biograph Studios and directed by D.W. Griffith (American 1875–1948) in 1908. Also included is a partially restored version of Le Mélomane (The Melomaniac), a 1903 short directed by the legendary French special effects virtuoso, Georges Méliès (1861–1938).
