A Tribute to Robert Gottlieb Arthur Bourchier was a noted Shakespearean actor in the first decades of the twentieth century. He was also a producer and theater manager, so it is perhaps no surprise that he attempted to move into the new medium of film, utilizing his background and resources. Bourchier traveled to Heidelberg, Germany to film his Macbeth, though the cast was British, including his wife, Violet Vanbrugh, as Lady Macbeth.

Hitchcock 125 Alfred Hitchcock’s picaresque thriller travels from London to the Scottish Highlands and back again. Canadian businessman Richard Hannay (Robert Donat) is thrown into the fire when a mysterious woman, claiming to hold the key to dangerous foreign information, is killed in his apartment. Hannay goes on the run, armed with only a map of Scotland, a warning about a man missing the top of his pinky finger, and a reference to “the thirty-nine steps.”

Wake Up!: The Cinema of Spike Lee Brilliantly shot, Jungle Fever depicts the explosive consequences that ensue when hot shot buppie architect Wesley Snipes and his new secretary Annabella Sciorra contract the title affliction. The wrath and disapproval of their respective families and communities conspire to break up the affair, and the film suggests that such unions based primarily on lust and curiosity are doomed by their own superficiality.
