Aeolian Pipe Organ

George Eastman, a lover of music, imagined his home being filled with the grand tones of a full orchestra in surround sound. In 1917, he installed a second organ chamber that complemented the original pipe organ in the conservatory. Destroyed by fire in 1949, shortly before the museum opened, the north organ chamber was not restored, in part because the south organ remained functional. While the organ originally had 132 ranks, it operated for more than sixty years with fewer than half that number. The Great Man's Lady

Presented free to seniors (62+) on Monday afternoons through October. Beginning this March, our senior matinee screenings are fully incorporated into our regular film calendar. Cinematic classics from the George Eastman House collection will be presented in 35mm, the way they were originally screened and were meant to be seen. This series is made possible in part by the Daisy Marquis Jones Foundation and the Monroe County Office for the Aging.

George Eastman House receives major award from The Garden Club of America

George Eastman House has received one of the highest honors bestowed annually by The Garden Club of America (GCA), the Medal for Historic Preservation. The award, presented to the museum at the GCA’s annual meeting, held at the Rochester Convention Center, recognizes outstanding work in the field of preservation and/or restoration of historic gardens or buildings of national importance.
