A History of Photography
This rotation was curated by Olivia Arnone, Graduate Program Manager for the Photographic Preservation and Collection Management Master of Arts program offered by the museum in partnership with the University of Rochester. Drawn from a variety of genres and styles, this selection of objects investigates how photographs, in the various contexts in which they were produced and used, have influenced our perceptions of people, events, and the landscape throughout history.
George Eastman Museum partners with Rochester’s LGBTQ community to present a free Summer of Solidarity film series at the Dryden Theatre

In solidarity with the victims of the atrocity in Orlando and with the entire LGBTQ community, the Dryden Theatre at the George Eastman Museum presents Summer of Solidarity—a film series that includes seven landmark films dealing with LGBTQ themes. This film series is organized by the George Eastman Museum in partnership with the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley, ImageOut: The Rochester LGBT Film Festival, and The MOCHA Center/Trillium Health. The George Eastman Museum announces the release of The Photographers Cookbook
Rochester, N.Y., June 20, 2016—
Nearly forty years after the idea was born, The Photographers Cookbook has been released. In the late 1970s, the George Eastman Museum approached a group of photographers to ask for their favorite recipes and food-related photographs to go with them, in pursuit of publishing a cookbook. The concept grew from the idea that a photographer’s talent in the darkroom likely translated into special skills in the kitchen. Dozens of photographers sent submissions, but editor Deborah Barsel left the museum before preparations were complete, and the planned publication never came to fruition—until now

The George Eastman Museum is hosting a community forum on Monday, July 11, at 6 p.m. to share information about its historic mansion restoration program and update community members about the next phase.

The George Eastman Museum invites the public to attend a community forum to learn more about the status of the historic mansion restoration project and what’s in store for the next phase of restoration efforts. The forum will be held on Monday, July 11, at 6 p.m. in the Curtis Theatre at the George Eastman Museum, 900 East Avenue, Rochester (use the cafe and store entrance on the west side of the building).

Volunteer for the Photo Finish 5k
Even if you don’t want to run or walk, on October 14, you can still be an invaluable part of the 2017 Photo Finish 5K. Come on out and volunteer for Rochester’s Philanthropy Challenge. Caring for Community The vision for the PhotoFinish 5K is that it should be a realization of Mr. Eastman’s philanthropic spirit and benefit the entire community. The goal of the race is to raise funds for both George Eastman Museum and other Rochester not-for-profits, and to hold an event that embodies both George Eastman’s philanthropic spirit and his ideals of wellness and health. George Eastman is as well known for his international philanthropy and his support of health, education, and arts organizations as he is for his business success.
