MGM production head Irving Thalberg and his then-wife Norma Shearer bring this modern tale of infidelity to the screen. When Jerry (Shearer) discovers that her husband, Ted (Chester Morris) has had an affair, she turns to Ted’s best friend Don (Robert Montgomery) to settle their marital account. When Ted can’t abide this treatment they file for divorce. After numerous relationships, Jerry finally meets her old friend Paul (Conrad Nagel), who has always been attracted to Jerry but now has a wife of his own. Nominated for Best Picture, Director, and Writing, Shearer took home the Academy Award for her performance as the jilted wife.
