(Osgood Perkins, Canada/US 2015, 93 min., DCP)
Director Oz Perkins has made a splash in the last few years with Longlegs and The Monkey. This film, his feature debut, is a chilling exploration of loneliness and isolation. In the cold winter of upstate New York, two girls (Kiernan Shipka and Lucy Boynton) at Catholic boarding school Bramford Academy find themselves left behind as their parents fail to retrieve them for winter break. Kat (Shipka) is troubled by dreams while Rose (Boynton) fears she may be pregnant. Left alone one night, Kat tells Rose about rumors that the nuns at the Academy may in fact be devil-worshippers. Meanwhile, the mysterious Joan (Emma Roberts) has flashbacks of living in a mental hospital before she hitches a ride to the Academy with Bill and Linda (James Remar and Lauren Holly). As the two storylines converge, dark secrets come to light that will affect everyone involved.
