Summer Chills

This summer, the Dryden Theatre gives you an opportunity to beat the heat with a series of “Summer Chills.” These films are not only set in snowy climes, but will also send a chill down your spine, with ghosts, vampires, aliens, and creepy children. There is an intricate connection between the isolation of the winter months and the fear of being alone, or at least cut off from greater society. Whether it’s an arctic research station (The Thing from Another World, August 22), public housing in in Stockholm (Let the Right One In, August 29), or a decaying English estate (Crimson Peak, July 25), winter can cut you off and make you fend for yourself, no matter what’s haunting you.
