Miracle

Thursday, August 25, 2022, 7:30 p.m., Dryden Theatre

(Miracol, Bogdan George Apetri, Romania 2021, 118 min., DCP, Romanian w/English subtitles)

Together, Unidentified (screening August 24) and Miracle make up the first two-thirds of an uncompleted, loose trilogy. Both deal with a small town in Romania, overlapping characters, and the dramatic, sometimes shocking, lengths they will go to to achieve their goals. In Miracle, a young nun leaves the convent one morning, secretly and with only a cell phone in hand. She asks a taxi driver to take her to the hospital and, when he picks up a second doctor as a passenger, she complains of continued headaches. When she arrives at the hospital, however, she runs around furtively, seeking out someone else until she flees and hails another cab. In the wake of this event, a police detective must discern the reason behind her actions and their fallout before a suspect they have in custody is released.
