(Cecil B. DeMille, US 1932, 125 min., 35mm)
Fredric March, Claudette Colbert, and Charles Laughton star in this historical epic from director Cecil B. DeMille. After Emperor Nero (Laughton) burns the city of Rome and blames it on the Christians, Marcus Superbus (March) is caught between his love of a Christian woman and the Empress Poppaea (Colbert), who is in love with him. Edited upon re-release, this film has been restored to its original runtime and includes sequences previously deleted, such as the “Dance of the Naked Moon.”
