Major retrospective of Alvin Langdon Coburn to open at George Eastman House on September 19

A retrospective featuring 175 works, including more than 145 photographs by Alvin Langdon Coburn as well as other related materials will open on September 19 at George Eastman House. Drawn from the collections of George Eastman House, the Royal Photographic Society, and the Museum of Modern Art, the exhibition assembles the best Coburn works from major international collections for the first time, allowing visitors to appreciate the full scope and import of this master photographer.
Photographer John Chiara to kick off George Eastman House’s annual Wish You Were Here photography lecture series

George Eastman House announced the fall lineup for its Wish You Were Here photography lecture series. The series will begin on Thursday, September 10 at 6 p.m., with John Chiara’s talk Lands End, which features images taken with his life-size camera obscura. George Eastman House to Host Two First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival Acts on September 20

George Eastman House will host two events on Sunday, September 20 as part of the First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival. The Company Stores, a folk fusion band from Charleston, West Virginia, will perform at 11 a.m. (tickets $10). Vivien Leigh: The Last Press Conference, a play produced by Screen Plays Theater will be presented at 2 p.m. (tickets $15). Both performances will be held in the Dryden Theatre, 900 East Avenue. George Eastman House offers free admission to active military families

George Eastman House has joined Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve, and their families. The official Blue Star program runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2015; however, George Eastman House will offer free admission to active military and their families year-round, beginning on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14, 2015.
Filmmaker Dan Sallitt to speak at the Dryden Theatre on June 12

George Eastman House has released the official program for the inaugural Nitrate Picture Show, the world’s first festival of film conservation. A vintage, 35mm print of Casablanca (Michael Curtiz, US 1942) will kick off the festival at 8 p.m. tonight in the Dryden Theatre, followed by The Man Who Knew Too Much (Alfred Hitchcock, UK 1934) at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are still available, and seating is limited.

The hundredth anniversary of the birth of James Card, the first curator of motion pictures at George Eastman House, is October 25, 2015. To commemorate this occasion, the museum presents Collecting Shadows: The Legacy of James Card, an exhibition celebrating Card’s roles as collector, educator, and showman. The exhibition will open on April 11 and run through October 25, 2015.
April showers bring May flowers to George Eastman House

George Eastman House will open its summer photography exhibition, In the Garden, on Saturday, May 9. Spanning the history of photography and photographic processes—from daguerreotype to inkjet prints—the exhibition addresses the relationships between photography, botanical images, and the cultivated landscape. The exhibition also features a section focused on George Eastman and his extensive gardens at 900 East Avenue. In the Garden will be on view through September 6.
