A retrospective featuring 175 works, including more than 145 photographs by Alvin Langdon Coburn as well as other related materials will open on September 19 at George Eastman House. Drawn from the collections of George Eastman House, the Royal Photographic Society, and the Museum of Modern Art, the exhibition assembles the best Coburn works from major international collections for the first time, allowing visitors to appreciate the full scope and import of this master photographer.

George Eastman House announced the fall lineup for its Wish You Were Here photography lecture series. The series will begin on Thursday, September 10 at 6 p.m., with John Chiara’s talk Lands End, which features images taken with his life-size camera obscura. Admission to this lecture is free for students (with valid ID). A book signing will follow in the museum’s café and store.

In collaboration with Seneca Park Zoo Society, George Eastman House will welcome David Liittschwager to the Dryden Theatre on Thursday, August 20 at 6 p.m. for a public lecture about his latest project, The World in One Cubic Foot.

As part of its 30th Anniversary Celebration, the Golisano Foundation has commissioned a series of photographic works of people with intellectual disabilities by renowned photographer Rick Guidotti.

George Eastman House recently announced that all Dryden Kids film screenings will now be FREE for attendees 17 years old and younger. In keeping with its mission to promote the art and history of cinema, the Dryden Theatre is encouraging younger audiences to see films on the big screen in their original formats, as they were intended to be.

George Eastman House will host two events on Sunday, September 20 as part of the First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival. The Company Stores, a folk fusion band from Charleston, West Virginia, will perform at 11 a.m. (tickets $10). Vivien Leigh: The Last Press Conference, a play produced by Screen Plays Theater will be presented at 2 p.m. (tickets $15). Both performances will be held in the Dryden Theatre, 900 East Avenue. George Eastman House has joined Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve, and their families. The official Blue Star program runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2015; however, George Eastman House will offer free admission to active military and their families year-round, beginning on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14, 2015.

Acclaimed director Dan Sallitt, will be appearing at the Dryden Theatre at George Eastman House on Friday, June 12, for a Q&A session following the screening of his most recent film, The Unspeakable Act (2012) at 8 p.m. Sallitt will return to the theater on Saturday, June 13, to introduce a film that he has chosen to accompany his feature, A Month in Thailand (Paul Negoescu, 2013).

The fifth annual George Eastman House Photo Finish 5K will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2015. With a great course through Rochester’s Neighborhood of the Arts, the run/walk is open to all—from competitive runners and people using wheelchairs, to casual joggers, dedicated walkers, and entire families.

George Eastman House has received one of the highest honors bestowed annually by The Garden Club of America (GCA), the Medal for Historic Preservation. The award, presented to the museum at the GCA’s annual meeting, held at the Rochester Convention Center, recognizes outstanding work in the field of preservation and/or restoration of historic gardens or buildings of national importance.

The Garden Vibes summer concert series at George Eastman House is back for its 22nd year. The outdoor concerts will take place on the following Wednesday evenings: June 17, July 22, and August 12. Bring a picnic, BYOB, relax with friends, and enjoy family activities in the historic Townson Terrace Garden and the surrounding grounds. Concerts are 6 to 8 p.m.

George Eastman House has received a grant award of $60,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for the museum’s Leo Hurwitz: Art, Conscience, and the Documentary Film preservation project. George Eastman House has released the official program for the inaugural Nitrate Picture Show, the world’s first festival of film conservation. A vintage, 35mm print of Casablanca (Michael Curtiz, US 1942) will kick off the festival at 8 p.m. tonight in the Dryden Theatre, followed by The Man Who Knew Too Much (Alfred Hitchcock, UK 1934) at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are still available, and seating is limited.

George Eastman House welcomes famed actor, producer, and author William Wellman Jr. to launch the preview event for the Nitrate Picture Show, the world’s first festival of film conservation, on Thursday, April 30. Wellman will be introducing one of his father’s famous films, A Star Is Born (William A. Wellman, US 1937) at 8 p.m. in the Dryden Theatre, followed by a discussion and book signing.

George Eastman House welcomes Aura Satz on Thursday, April 16 to Rochester. Satz is a British visual artist whose work cuts across film, sound, performance, and sculpture. Her latest installation, Eyelids Leaking Light is currently on display at the museum through April 24.

The hundredth anniversary of the birth of James Card, the first curator of motion pictures at George Eastman House, is October 25, 2015. To commemorate this occasion, the museum presents Collecting Shadows: The Legacy of James Card, an exhibition celebrating Card’s roles as collector, educator, and showman. The exhibition will open on April 11 and run through October 25, 2015.

George Eastman House will open its summer photography exhibition, In the Garden, on Saturday, May 9. Spanning the history of photography and photographic processes—from daguerreotype to inkjet prints—the exhibition addresses the relationships between photography, botanical images, and the cultivated landscape. The exhibition also features a section focused on George Eastman and his extensive gardens at 900 East Avenue. In the Garden will be on view through September 6.

George Eastman House will honor Academy Award winner Michael Douglas with the George Eastman Award, the museum’s highest honor in motion pictures, at a ceremony on Thursday, May 14.
